2019 BOYS PYLAX Coach Bios

 

Director of Player Development

JA MacDougall

JA grew up as a box lacrosse player in Brantford, Ontario. In 2005, he was selected as the 13th overall pick in the OLA Jr. "A" Draft by the Toronto Beaches. That same year, JA won a field lacrosse national championship with the Hamilton Bengals club team. As an outdoor field player, JA went on to play at Mercyhurst University where he won multiple conference championships and the 2011 Division II National Championship in Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium. He finished his career at Mercyhurst in 2012 as a senior captain, making it to the Final Four one more time. Currently, JA is working under Cam Thompson as an assistant coach at Shady Side Academy.

 

Coaches

8U - Cam Thompson

Cam grew up in Baltimore where he attended National high school lacrosse power McDonogh School. At McDonogh he was captain of the soccer and lacrosse teams and member of McDonogh’s 1999 MIAA Lacrosse Championship Team. He attended and played lacrosse at division I Hobart College and played on Hobart’s 2002 Patriot League Championship team. Cam is the head varsity high school boys lacrosse coach at Shady Side Academy. Cam's boys, Finn and Boden, play on the 8U PYLAX teams.

8U - Andrew Dickson

Andrew played for Shady Side Academy where he served as captain in 1999. He earned first team all WPSLA, first team all MSLA and named all American. In college Andrew played for perennially nationally ranked division III Ohio Wesleyan University. There he served as captain and earned first team all North Coast Athletic Conference honors. His son George plays for the 8U team.

10U/12U - Rob Jamison

Rob is a graduate of New England lacrosse prep power Avon Old Farms and was a three year, three sport varsity athlete of the lacrosse, soccer (captain) and basketball teams. Rob attended the University of Vermont where he was a member of two nationally ranked division I lacrosse teams and a two year starter at the midlfield position. Rob is the Director of the boy's PYLAX program and has three children; Gwynnie, Briggs and Mack currently playing on PYLAX teams.

12U - Andy Braham

Andy was a three year starter, four year letter winner and senior captain of Shady Side Academy's 1994 lacrosse team. Andy attended Lehigh University where he played for one season. Andy has remained active in the Western PA. youth lacrosse community with three children currently playing on PYLAX teams. Andy's son Emmerich, a 12U PYLAXer, is also a 2025 TRUE Lacrosse National team member.   

12U - PJ Kandravy

Primarily a soccer player turned LAX lover, PJ was named All-WPIAL, All-STATE, and to the UMBRO HS All America team in High School as well as to the US Mens Regional and National Team pools before playing as a 4 year starter at Duquesne University, where he even helped out as the football place-kicker during an injury.  A multi-sport varsity athlete in HS and college, PJ has finally hung up his cleats to kick and scream as a coach on area lacrosse, soccer, and basketball sidelines for his 2 sons and daughter.  PJ’s has two children currently playing .

12U/14U - Steven Paul

The Virginia transplant brings a wealth of coaching experience to the PYLAX program. Steven was a standout midfielder for Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. After college, Steven applied his playing experience to coaching at the high school and youth age levels at West Potomac High School and Forth Hunt Youth Lacrosse. Steven will spend much of his time focusing on offensive player development for 12U and 14U. 

12U/14U - Conor Ryan

A St. Vincent College graduate, Conor joins PYLAX this season as our defensive player development coordinator for 12U and 14U. Conor played at St. Vincent College as a longpole helping anchor the defense for three years. The PYLAX alumn, class of 2004, was a stand-out defensmen at Fox Chapel High School where he was a four year letter winner. We are excited to have Conor and his defensive knowledge within the program.
